Who knows what .cu is used for? If you said, "That’s Cuba!" then give yourself a pat on the back! The better question is, could credit unions take advantage of the .cu tld?
People have gone around and around about credit union usage of .com versus .org versus.coop. Could .cu just be yet another domain that IT has to buy, and at $400 a year?
Personally, I prefer the .org or .coop tld for credit unions, although .org has much more consumer understanding than .coop. Almost nobody has heard of .cu (yet) so you’d have to create memorable names, like wtf.cu.
What does everyone think? Another crazy tld you have to register or a chance for credit unions to have some fun with their domain?

I think the .cu tld represents a great opportunity for both CUs and CUSOs. Due to the number of credit unions that exist and the similarities in names, most of the great .org domain names are all taken up.
A simple Google search for “community choice credit union” brings up four different websites with the same CU name:
- comchoice.spintest.com
- http://www.communitychoicecreditunion.com
- http://www.comchoicecu.org
With a .cu domain name, one of those credit unions could grab communitychoice.cu and have a great way to brand themselves. Granted, its still a race for who gets the name, just like all of the other TLDs, but its a chance to make a difference for someone.

Yup, it’ll be a foot race if credit unions do decide to adopt it. I wonder how many will with the $400 price of entry though. I wonder if it is even worth it….
